REVIEW JOURNAL JOURNAL 1 Tittle : The Use of Language Functions among Sudanese EFL Learner Author : Ali Ahmed Osman Zakaria Journal belong to Department of English Language & Linguistics University of Kassala, Sudan & Qassim University, Saudi Arabia Abstract : The study probes into the Sudanese EFL university learners’ discourse to appraise their ability to use different language functions. The students were asked to respond to a questionnaire, a written test and an interview. Results showed that students were not able to make an active use of language to express different language functions. They did not succeed to form the discourse that enable them to give or receive information. MALE AND FEMALE STUDENT'S LINGUISTIC POLITENESS Nama : Guinina Nur Kaesarini E-mail : guininanur.2018@student.uny.ac.id INTRODUCTION Communicative competence emphasizes that the knowledge of grammatical rules is not sufficient to communicate comprehensively, therefore it needs pragmatic knowledge. Without pragmatic understanding, there will be many failures in communication for example is misunderstanding. Besides, one important aspect of pragmatic competence is politeness. Many researches have been conducted in this field, however only few that specifically revealed the differences between male and female linguistic politeness. The observation is conducted based on the adaptation from DCT by Bacha, Bahous & Diab (2012). Furthermore, the data are analyzed using some politeness theories. Wednesday, 17th october 2018 Dear Diary I went to my granny’s house in a village of java. The plane flew five hours later to Adisudcipto International Airport. I got there at night. It was my first time here, so my cousin picked me up by a car. We drove until one hour, and i shooked because more we drove, the road more quiet and bampy, and no street lamps there. I arrived at granny’s house at 8pm and greeted by smell of delicious food. We ate dinner and went to sleep after. the next day I woke up earlier. The sun was shinning through the curtains and i could smell fresh weather arounding. I smell breakfast cooking in downstair. we ate breakfast while telling about our story.
